I was on a call with my best friend today, and we got to talk about so many things including our job search activities. We are both pivoting into new careers, she into automation engineering and I, into data analytics. We talked about our fears regarding interview composures, about the job climate in present times pertaining to the massive layoffs, the need to keep upskilling and finding new ways to stay relevant and ahead in this job hunting.
Somewhere in the middle of our chat, we talked about fraud recruiters who are out there taking advantage of people's desperation in seeking a source of livelihood. There are a number of red flags to look for in this people, the first for me is usually when they want to chat instead of call. Another is when they give a job offer after only the first interview, and then go ahead and ask for your bank details and talk about purchasing office equipment from a specified vendor. Another way to identify them may also be the grammatical errors in their email, and if the email address is not the same domain name with the company they are representing. I've had a share of them approach me and I used to entertain them just for the sake of understanding their game, but I won't be paying them any more attention because they are time wasters and the energy spent attending to them is totally unnecessary.
My issue with this people is that it is deeply disturbing that there may actually be innocent people who are out there falling for these scams and innocently getting into trouble. It would be nice to know what platforms are out there that one can use to call them out, or report them and have them fished out and pay for their crimes.
It was as always, a refreshing time chatting with my best buddy. We may not talk for days and weeks, but every moment we find to talk, we bare it all. I'm blessed to have her.
Dear diary, you are still a wonderful buddy to me as well, but no, Elohor is the winner. XOXO...
